NIGERIANS TODAY

You cannot talk about a country like Nigeria without talking about culture and tradition, but these days things are changing and we are facing a battle to preserve our culture and tradition. First of all what is culture? Culture consists of beliefs, behavior, objects and other characteristics common to a particular group or society. On the other hand what is tradition? Tradition is a ritual, belief or object passed down within a society from generation to generation.
Nigeria is a country with over 250 ethnic groups and also home to almost 510 different languages, guess thats much for a country! yea also guess so! But over the years things have been changing and also some of our cultures and traditions have not only changed but perished into thin air. So this is a battle we must fight hard in order to preserve our culture and tradition and also pass them intact to our children and grandchildren.
Lets take for example dressing now in Nigeria, im sorry ladies but i will use you as example (no gender inequality) the whole way our sisters dress now is opposing our tradition moving around with short skirts and tight clothes, forget religious aspect our grandparents didnt dress like this and even our parents, then why our generation? All these are because of the Westernization and Civilization that came into the county forgetting that these whites have no culture and tradition!
Another aspect i want to touch is how we treat our elders now, things have really changed over the past years. Now children dont have much regards for elders like before, in a typical African culture not only Nigeria an elder deserves so much respect. These days you see children extending hands to elders! ABOMINATION!! This is not an African culture you only shake an elder when he stretches his hand but this is going extinct now! Also now you see children standing infront of parents, funny and sad scenario! you should bow before your elders that is how it should be done.
Another important aspect is the social life. The whole social life of Nigeria has changed and has gone against our moral ethos. Now the rate at which youths go into drugs, party around even the number of unwanted pregnancy has risen. This newly adopted Westernized lifestyle has given birth to violence. Another side effect of social life also affected our literature, music and film industries, they are doing more harm than good not educating individuals like before but rather passing on negative influence to the society!
So over the years we can conclude alot changed in Nigeria given our traditional and cultural values. We have suddenly dumped values that make us real Africans into adopting those that are making us fake individuals, the earlier we go back to our ancestors ways of living the better for a better Nigeria. It is the responsibility of every citizen to assist in preserving our cultures and traditions.......long live Nigeria
